Let God Fight For You

You do not have to fight this battle. Position yourselves, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord. He is with you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Tomorrow, go out to face them, for the Lord is with you.

2 Chronicles 20:17 (CBS)

Throughout the passage, Judah faced a major challenge. The people were powerless against their enemies, they no longer knew what to do. When King Jehoshaphat heard that a large army was coming, he was afraid and turned to God for help. What is most remarkable is that he became aware of his weaknesses and his lack of power in the face of his enemies. This is why he turned to God.

God Himself initiated this attack on Judah to punish them for their mistake. But that didn't stop Him from being ready to deliver them once the punishment came into effect. God still uses the same process today when we turn our backs on Him to satisfy our lusts. He knows we will be afraid. It is this fear that will lead us to seek His face and submit to His will. This is what Jehoshaphat did. He recognized his fault and that of the people and turned to God.

In His compassion and concern for His people, God heard their prayer and immediately responded with assurance of the victory He would grant them. He made this fight His own, telling the people: “You do not have to fight this battle… see the salvation of the Lord.” Your situation is not much different from that of Judah and King Jehoshaphat. Without a doubt, what God expects from you is your repentance and sincere prayer. He is already ready to fight your battle for you. But, you need to turn to Him, abide in His presence with faith and open your heart to Him.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
