Lead my soul from prison, that I may give thanks to your name. Then the righteous shall gather around me because you have been good to me.
Psalm 142:8 (NABRE)
One of David's best attitudes toward God is to praise Him and give thanks to His name every time he turns to Him for deliverance. David understood this desire of God's heart to receive our praise and thanksgiving for His goodness to us. Most often, it is this attitude that we do not develop that prevents us from receiving deliverance from God. Once delivered, we forget God completely.
David is not asking God to free him from his enemies so that he will finally be at peace or so that he can continue to live as he pleases until he has another problem. You see, he knows that his goal is to bring glory to God, but being too preoccupied with the attacks of his enemies will prevent him from giving God the praise that is due to Him. So he turns to God to rid him of his situation so that he is free to celebrate His name.
His assurance is that he knows that believers will also delight in worshiping God alongside him. It would be good to start changing your tactics to get closer to God. Like David, have the desire to worship and praise the name of God for His goodness in the midst of His assembly. Do not seek the answer to your problems, but seek the face of God in praise even in the midst of your worries. It won't be long before He rids you of your enemies so that you can praise Him.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
