Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.
3 John 2 (LSB)
Loving our brothers in the faith requires watching over them, encouraging them, comforting them in their sufferings and exhorting them when necessary. We must also commend them for their efforts when we see them growing in faith and becoming mature. This is what John does in these verses (vv. 1-8), he expresses his joy and satisfaction to Gaius to hear good things said about him. He praises his way of life.
The fact that Gaius does not neglect his Christian life, his relationship with others and also his attachment to the word of God, Paul judges that the state of his soul is spiritually prosperous. Having confidence in God’s promises to bless and care for those who faithfully seek Him, Paul prays and hopes that Gaius will prosper in all things and that he will be healthy to continue his faithful work for the Lord.
The Bible is full of men who are praised for their integrity towards the Lord. We can follow their example so that we too can please the Lord and bring joy to those who look upon us. He who prospers spiritually will also prosper materially. For God will not fail to bless the one who seeks His presence and walks according to His word. If you seek God with all your heart and live by His standards, He will lift you up to demonstrate His faithfulness and His satisfaction in seeing you grow.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
