Pursue Holiness

Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.

Hebrews 12:14 (NKJV)

Although the verse states two main words, peace and holiness, I want to focus on one of them, Holiness. The reason is that Holiness is the foundation of our relationship with God. As is clear in the verse, we must pursue holiness in order to see the Lord. The phrase “See the Lord” in this context can be interpreted as “Have a Personal Relationship with the Lord.

Some people are afraid to say of themselves that they are sanctified because of the sins in their lives. Obviously, they ignore that being sanctified does not depend on their own efforts or abilities, but that it is God's decision to declare us "Holy" despite our sinful nature. All He asks of us is to receive it by faith and to acknowledge that it is a grace. The question may be: “How can we live or pursue holiness?” Three simple acts can help us pursue Holiness as God required it. (1) Spend time in the word of God as it says in Joshua 1:8. (2) Live in obedience to the word by putting it into practice in your life as it says in James 1:22. (3) Be transformed and renewed by the word as it says in Romans 12:2.

God does not declares us holy without making provision for us. He knows that we will never achieve it alone, for that He gave us His word. So pursuing holiness means living up to God’s standards. Even then, you and me will still need the Holy Spirit to help us. To be holy means to draw closer to God and live according to the desire of His heart, which we find in the Bible.

May the grace and the peace of God be with you all.
