Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.
Colossians 3:23 (NLT)
We often don’t know what awaits us when we do someone a favor. Either we do it out of compassion or we do it out of love. Whether it is out of compassion or love, the most important thing is to do it wholeheartedly. Some people, however, never do favors without expecting anything in return. Whether they are glorified or paid, they always have an interest at stake.
Paul seeks to exhort us against this selfish attitude to prevent us from falling into the sin of wickedness without even realizing it. By saying to work wholeheartedly, Paul does not limit this work only to church activities, but he even extends it to the daily tasks that we carry out for our employer, even if he refuses to give us the raise that we have been asking for several months.
If you provide financial assistance to someone, provide it wholeheartedly. If you are helping someone spiritually, help them wholeheartedly. If you feed the poor, do it wholeheartedly, without expecting anything from anyone in return, for this is what pleases God. Do not seek your interests in helping others or in anything else, let God reward you for your efforts because He takes into account the love and passion you have for what you do.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
