The Days Are Evil

Working together with him, we also appeal to you,

“Don’t receive the grace of God in vain.”

2 Corinthians 6:1 (CSB)

When Paul speaks of working with God, he is referring to the ambassadorial roles he and the other apostles had played to the Jews and other nations. But since his letter was addressed directly to the Christians in Corinth, his exhortation was that they take their spiritual growth seriously. Although they were Christians, they followed false teachers and attached no importance to sanctification.

Paul had their spiritual life at heart. He was very concerned about how they lived out their Christian faith; he did not want his work among them to be in vain. Today, we find this same attitude in our churches. They have many believers but few of them are really interested in their salvation and spiritual growth. It is like an additional responsibility for their pastors.

If God gave His Son to the cross, it was not to please men or to prove that He can do more than what we know of Him. He did it to reconcile us to Himself and draw us closer to Him as was the case in the Garden of Eden. Do not take God’s grace in vain, it is something you do not deserve. To waste it is to reject God and His love for you. Seek God while there is still time, for the days are evil.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
