The Exact Time

Be on the alert then, because you do not know the day nor the hour.

Matthew 25:13 (NASB)

Before leaving on a trip, a mother asks her three daughters to behave wisely, to always clean the house and not to go out at night except in an emergency. Once their mother leaves the house, the first two start partying. They do nothing their mother has ordered them to do, they do not clean, they let strangers into the house and come home late at night. Not knowing when their mother will return, the third urges them every day to behave as their mother has asked them, but they refuse to listen to her.

One evening, while they are partying with their friends, their mother comes knocking at the door. What a surprise for these stubborn young girls. They look for every possible reason to find excuses in their mother's eyes, but in vain. They are punished for their negligence. This example reminds us of the parable of Jesus who exhorts us to always be ready for his return, because no one knows the date or the hour that He will come, not even Him.

As we see in this passage (verses 1-13) among the 10 virgins, five had prepared themselves for the coming of the bridegroom, they had come with enough oil in their lamps. For the others, it was too late, not only did they have no more oil, but they could not find any in the streets to buy it. You and I must prepare ourselves and be ready for the coming of our savior, because we do not know the exact hour at which He will present himself at our door.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
