The Fulfillment of His Word

And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord.

Luke 1:45 (NASB)

Every time I read this passage where the angel comes to Mary to tell her that she is going to be pregnant with a child, what always catches my attention is her response to the angel. Even knowing what was going to happen to her, she had complete trust in God's plan. In her time, as soon as a woman became pregnant without being married, especially if she was engaged to a man, she was stoned to death in public. Yet she was not afraid because she knew that if God had chosen her to carry His son, He would protect her too.

It’s the difference between someone who trusts God and someone whose faith wavers. Look at Mary's response in verse 38: "I am the Lord’s servant... May your word to me be fulfilled." Because of her trust in God, Mary chose to let God accomplish His will in her life. Two things can be seen in her statement: (1) If God accomplishes His will in her life as the angel says, she accepts it with joy. (2) If she becomes pregnant and is stoned in the public square, she also accepts it with joy because she trusts in God.

I don't know what God is doing in your life, I don't know what He is revealing to you, but are you willing to let Him do what He said He would do? As Elizabeth said about Mary when she saw her, let someone say the same thing about you because as God's servant you are willing to let His word be fulfilled in your life.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
