The Futility of Goods

Surely everyone goes around like a mere phantom; in vain they rush about, heaping up wealth without knowing whose it will finally be.

Psalm 39:6 (NIV)

Young people today are content to do what they want, they go where they want, they enjoy life and all that the world offers them without thinking about the consequences. They forget that a time will come when they will have to give an account of their wrongdoing and face the reality of all that they should have done and did not do. The two most crucial moments in the life of a believer are when he must face the consequences of his actions and when he must give an account to God.

Often, when we seek God, it is to ask Him to give us what we desire. This is the verb most used in our prayers: "Give". When we do not see what we have asked God for, we turn to the world to give us the pleasures and goods that satisfy our desires. Solomon sums up the futility of this attitude significantly when he says that all is vanity and a striving after wind.

God does not forbid us from living and enjoying life to the fullest, but it is the purpose and desire in our hearts that is worrisome, because on the last day, there will be consequences. Have you abandoned the way of God to run after the riches of the world? Have you reduced your time in prayer and studying His word to increase your hours of work to make more money? Know that on the last day, you will leave empty-handed. So, while there is still time, seek the Lord and enjoy the blessings He bestows on you according to His riches and goodness towards you, be grateful.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
