Better is a little that the righteous has than the abundance of many wicked.
Psalm 37:16 (RSV)
If you were asked to define an evil person, like everyone else, you would say that it's someone who makes others suffer for pure pleasure and acts without thinking. This is a logical definition, given what we observe. But God doesn't always define an evil person as someone who harms others and commits the worst atrocities for their own pleasure; an evil person can also be someone who resists God.
A man like Saul was an evil man in God's eyes because he rejected God's will to do what he wanted. This is what often happens to those who seek earthly riches and happiness; they reject God and forget His precepts. To have more and more, they are ready to do anything, even if it means that others suffer because of their actions. That's when they become evil according to our definition. But ultimately, they will not enjoy the fruit of their wickedness.
In the context of our verse, the one who is righteous before God will always live with the little he possesses, for God will ensure that it is enough for him. He will grant him joy and true happiness, even in the midst of difficulties. The person who is righteous in God's eyes is the one who loves Him with all their heart and walks in obedience to His word. You who have chosen Jesus, you are righteous in God's eyes. Therefore, you are among those of whom He says: "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish… (John 10:27-28)" So don't worry about the little you possess, for your heavenly Father will take care of you.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
