The Manifestation of His Glory

This is what the Lord says: “Heaven is My throne and the earth is the footstool for My feet. Where then is a house you could build for Me? And where is a place that I may rest?

Isaiah 66:1 (NASB)

A wealthy entrepreneur—owner of vast, luxurious estates boasting every imaginable amenity, such as sprawling gardens, sports facilities, and swimming pools—traveled urgently to a developing country to visit a longtime friend. Upon arrival, he felt somewhat out of his element when he discovered a small house that struggled to accommodate the entire family. Yet, despite being accustomed to luxury, the entrepreneur discovered something far superior to anything his lavish lifestyle could offer: the warm welcome and the honors his friend bestowed upon him.

The lesson of this story echoes God’s declaration that heaven is His throne and the earth is His footstool. For a long time—notably during the wilderness journey of the Exodus—He dwelt among His people to guide them on their trek. God never expected man to build a temple capable of containing Him, but rather one capable of receiving Him fittingly. By declaring the earth His footstool, He demonstrates that no earthly temple can confine Him. Yet, there is a place that no human can build or destroy, but where He desires to dwell and rest: your heart.

God Himself said that one day He would dwell among us—a promise fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost through the Holy Spirit. Today, you and I are God's temple. While the earth cannot contain Him within a structure of stone and sand, He has prepared you to receive Him into your heart. God has chosen to make you His dwelling place; let Him work freely in your life and make room for Him. Even if it requires abandoning certain habits or giving up certain privileges, believe me, it will be worth it. For God within you is the manifestation of His glory among men. Be, then, the glorious temple that pleases Him.
