The Other Side of Doubt

Now on one of those days Jesus and His disciples got into a boat, and He said to them, “Let’s cross over to the other side of the lake.” So they launched out.

Luke 8:22 (NASB)

When we read the Bible, we always focus on what is written and the facts of the story that is recorded without considering its depth. We try to understand the Bible according to our own intelligence instead of opening ourselves to the Holy Spirit to reveal to us the message behind certain passages. This verse is an example. Jesus asks His disciples to go with Him to the other side of the lake, without telling them that their faith would be tested.

We cannot grow without being tested, because testing is the very foundation of faith and a personal relationship with God. Going to the other side sometimes means coming out of the side of doubt and fear to the side of trust in God and faith in His promises. If God had told you that a test was awaiting you at a time in your life, you would surely have abandoned your walk with Him to avoid it. This is why He does not tell us anything but helps us to move forward in faith.

Are you crossing over to the other side? If so, I am sure that like the disciples, you are afraid of the circumstances around you. You are afraid that you will not come out unscathed. Instead of being afraid of the floods that are coming over you, remember what Jesus said: “Let us cross over to the other side.” That is, He has already planned for you to go through the circumstances, no matter how intense they may be. Your doubt must be tested to grow in faith.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
