The Time Is Favorable

For God says, “At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.” Indeed, the “right time” is now.

Today is the day of salvation.

2 Corinthians 6:2 (NLT)

We all feel the need to be saved—to be spared from the coming judgment. Even those who refuse to acknowledge and accept the existence of God nevertheless feel this need to have their past faults erased, so that they may walk in a new life. At the very least, they desire to be forgiven by those against whom they have committed an injustice. It is a sense of relief that we all hope to experience at some point in our lives. There are even those who, having already served their prison sentences, still seek redemption; they will do everything in their power to atone for their misdeeds in the eyes of their victims.

If, in our relationships with others, we desire to be forgiven and to make peace—if we long for our faults to be atoned for—how much more, then, do we all need the grace of God? For His grace offers something far greater than the mere forgiveness of our past sins. It does not stop at forgiving; it erases, it purifies, and it grants us eternal life, even after our physical death. It is in this sense that God speaks of the "favorable time" and the "day of salvation." While He could, in all justice, have punished us, He chose instead to create a favorable moment by sending Jesus to the cross to bear the burden of our sins and set us free from all sin.

Why did God decide to come to your aid? In any case, it was not because of any meritorious acts on your part. He did it out of love for you, and for His own glory. Jesus' death on the cross made this favorable moment possible. There is no expiration date, nor any fixed deadline, for this favorable moment—this day of salvation. It could be tomorrow, a month from now, or a year from now. Yet, it is best that this happen today—at this very moment. For no one knows when Jesus will return. Therefore, do not let time slip away in the hope of finding a more opportune moment later; if God has answered your call for salvation, it is your turn to receive His salvation, for tomorrow could be far too late.
