The Unjust Scales of Men

The Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with Him.

Proverbs 11:1 (NIV)

What is an unjust scale in God's eyes? Some might see it as the measuring instrument used by humans to weigh things. That's true. But what God hates is not the instrument itself, but the intention of the heart of the one who uses it to deceive others. In reality, any evil intention aimed at manipulating, causing downfall, or leading astray is abominable in the eyes of the Lord. He is a just and righteous God in all that He does. He punishes those He loves as much as the wicked.

Faced with the current state of the world and the extent of human wickedness, we are entitled to ask ourselves: where is God in all of this? Some might even go so far as to ask why a Christian who loves God with all their heart must suffer under the yoke of the wicked. The current state of the world is the fruit of humanity's sin. Humanity wants it all: honor, money, and power. The more they possess, the more they desire, and that is why they are ready to use a rigged scale to get what they want.

You may be a victim of this situation, and you no doubt dislike it, but God, who hates the wickedness of men, will not let them go unpunished. Sooner or later, you will see God at work in your life. He will repay you a hundredfold for what men have taken from you. Where you have fallen because of their manipulations and cunning, He will reveal you and make you shine in their eyes. What God hates, He destroys; what He approves, He provides. Never act with evil intentions, but in all things, let yourself be guided by the Holy Spirit, for He knows God's heart regarding the evil intentions of men.
