The Vanity of a Vision

For in the multitude of dreams and many words there is also vanity. But fear God.

Ecclesiastes 5:7 (NKJV)

Is it wrong to dream big and do everything in your power to achieve it? Absolutely not! There is nothing wrong with dreaming of great things and wanting to achieve them. On the contrary, having dreams is one of the activities in life that motivates people to pursue their goals. Those who dream make plans, and those who plan organize. What often happens to those who dream big is that they become arrogant, believing in the vanity of their thoughts. They sometimes believe themselves superior to others.

The Bible teaches us that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Ps. 111:10). It also teaches us that man may have plans, but the will of the Lord will always have the final say (Prov. 19:21). This means that our dreams and plans are nothing but vanity and a chasing after the wind, as Solomon said, if we do not invite the Lord into them. Even though you can accomplish great things in life, God knows better than you what will be best. That is why He always accomplishes His will.

Whatever your dream or vision, even if it is a revelation from God, do not think yourself superior to others by proclaiming your greatness of spirit. This is when your words become vanity, for the God who gave you this vision has not authorized you to elevate yourself above others. Do not let your dream or vision become vanity; entrust it to God. He can do His will with it and accomplish it in a way that elevates you and manifests His glory.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
