Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
Colossians 3:2 (NIV)
A true Christian seeks to please God in all his ways. When he has doubts about something, instead of letting his desires and emotions guide him, he seeks to find the answer through the word of God. He does not dispute what he finds even if it does not please him, because he trusts God and he knows that all of God's requirements are always for his good.
Paul, speaking to the Colossians, asks them to set their affections on things above. He knows exactly what he is talking about because he knows that some Christians in Colosse who are devoted to the things of God are still attached to worldly lusts. The things above that Paul speaks of refer to the will of God, the desire of His heart for His children. This is what is pleasing in His sight
When we read verse 1, we see that this is not a requirement that applies to everyone. We must first be resurrected with Christ, which means we have died to sin with Him. Have you ever made the decision to leave your past behind and follow Jesus? Do you believe in the sacrifice of the cross that grants us God’s forgiveness? If so, then you are one of those to whom this verse is addressed. Don’t waste time, seek first the things of God and the Holy Spirit will take control of your whole life to make you pleasing in His sight.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
