What Does a Firm Assurance Consist of?

Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, a conviction of things not seen. For therein the elders had witness borne to them.

Hebrews 11:1 (ASV)

If we say we have firm assurance in what we hope for from God, why do some still doubt and fear when they go through difficult times? Assurance is the trust we place in a promise or guarantee someone has given us for something that does not yet exist. To have firm assurance is to have absolute trust.

The use of the word "firm" strengthens our assurance. It is associated with constancy, that is, a lasting assurance that does not vary or change. It also implies faithfulness and submission to the person we trust. With its firmness, instead of diminishing with time and circumstances, assurance increases day by day, requiring a stimulus to grow.

Let's use examples from your daily life to better explain the context of firm assurance:

  • You have firm assurance that you will find a job.

  • You have firm assurance that your bills will be paid. • You have the firm assurance that you will have a child.

  • You have the firm assurance that you will be healed.

  • You have the firm assurance that no one can harm you.

This firm assurance you have is the fruit of a promise and the guarantee that God has given you to always keep His promise to you. So keep your assurance without wavering.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
