And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.
Colossians 3:23-24 (NJKV)
A rich man who owns several businesses decides one day to find a Christian who will confirm to him that his wealth and accomplishments will bring him God’s grace and greater rewards. He consults with all the Christians he knows to see where he can find a faithful, honest, and trustworthy man of God who will answer him. All those he asks recommend the same pastor, whom they all know to be a man after God’s own heart, humble and filled with the Spirit
The rich man goes to his church to meet him. When he arrives, he finds a gardener cleaning the church grounds. When he asks to speak to the pastor, the gardener replies, “He’s right in front of you.” Surprised by the answer and seeing what he is doing, the rich man realizes that he does not identify with the one being talked about. Wisely, the pastor answers him that God does not reward exploits that enhance men, but He rewards small things that are done with a good heart. From this answer, the rich man understands that his wealth will not attract God's attention. He must therefore aim for small things that please God.
Do not be like this man who believes that success is what pleases God. Do what you do with all your heart, even if for men it has no importance. It is God who rewards.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
