I wish that all people were just like me. But each has his own gift from God, one person in this way and another in that way.
1 Corinthians 7:7 (HCSB)
Today we still find Christians in the Church who say they have received no gift from the Holy Spirit. They watch others manifest them and wonder why not them. In fact, the Bible is full of passages confirming that those who truly believe in Jesus receive, through the Spirit, a gift for the perfecting of the saints and the building up of the Church of Jesus Christ.
Some religions, or denominations, completely reject the manifestation of spiritual gifts, arguing that these gifts were intended for Christians in the early Church. For them, these were gifts given to the apostles and certain first century Christians to authenticate their preaching and teaching. However, even though the Bible teaches us that the gifts were given in the first century for the edification of the first Christians, we cannot ignore that the Church today has an urgent need for the manifestation of these gifts.
So, if you are a true Christian, you have received a gift whose manifestation is proportional to the measure of your faith to serve the body of Christ according to your calling. As Paul says so well, do not neglect the gift that is in you for the perfection and edification of the saints because you too, like every other Christian, have received a gift for the work of the ministry, use it wisely, with humility.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
