For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Proverbs 2:6 (NIV)
When Christopher, a young theology student, came to me for advice, to convince me of his situation, the first thing he said upon entering my office was, “I wish I were wise to make better decisions, but I am not like Solomon.” Moved by his statement, I told myself that I had to be wise to understand his situation before I could tell him anything.
Christopher’s problem was that he consistently made decisions that led to disastrous results. Because of this, he believed that only a small group of devoted Christians were chosen by God to be wise. It was a blessing that was not reserved for everyone. To help him believe otherwise, I told him that the Bible teaches us that we can ask God for wisdom, and He will give it to us willingly, without reproach (James 1:5).
To help him better understand that wisdom comes from God, I discussed two verses with him, (1) Exodus 4:12 where God said to Moses, "Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say." (2) Daniel 1:17 which tells us, "To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds." You may have the same problem as Christopher, thinking that you are not part of this small group. Know that God wants to give you the wisdom and intelligence necessary to better accomplish His will through you.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
