You who are edified and comforted by our meditations and prayers, we have a piece of advice for you on this first weekend of August:
Pray when everything seems to be going well,
Pray even when you think you have no reason to pray,
Pray when circumstances assail you from all sides,
Pray when your faith wavers as well as when it grows,
Pray when you are sad as well as when you are happy,
Pray when you do not know what to pray for,
Pray when you lose hope,
Pray even when you think that God does not hear you and does not see you.
The important thing in prayer is not your emotion, it is rather your obedience to the word of God which tells you to pray without ceasing and in all circumstances.

You're totally right, prayer is the main key to touch the heart of God no matter what you are going through in life. You can feel desperate and discouraged, your prayer can open doors you can't even imagine.
