You Don't Know Why

I am to be the only inheritance the priests have. You are to give them no possession in Israel; I will be their possession.

Ezekiel 44:28 (NIV)

When we read the Bible, we sometimes settle for what we see in a verse. If the content interests us and gives us hope, we take it for a divine promise. This is why we often miss the essential teaching of God's Word. A verse, no matter how revealing and powerful, may well hide another truth. If we don't dig deep, we will never understand what lies beneath.

Reading this verse, you and I would be happy to say that God is our inheritance; therefore, we should not worry about the enemy's traps. Yet, if we return to Numbers 18:19-21, where God informs Aaron that He would be his inheritance and that he would have to rely on the Israelites' offerings, it was rather to protect him and his descendants from the curse of scattering pronounced by Jacob in Genesis 49:5-7.

Sometimes, when God leads you down a different path from the direction He had previously indicated, it is not a random decision; rather, it is to protect you from a curse your parents may have pronounced against you years before, or to spare you the worst. Instead of complaining, be grateful that God changed His plan without informing you, because had you known, your attitude would undoubtedly have made the situation worse and caused you to lose His favor.

May God's grace and peace be with you all.
