Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil;
For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
Psalm 23:4 (NKJV)
You wake up in the morning to go to work, get ready as usual before having breakfast. All you have in mind is that you are going to drive to work, spend the day completing your assigned tasks, and then return home at the end of the day. I am sure you never think about the misfortune that could happen to you during this time. Why would you think about it?
I believe David thought strongly about it, but what compelled him to think about it was the assurance he had that his God would never abandon him, even in the midst of the darkest danger which he describes as " the shadow of death". It is this grace that the Lord grants to those who believe in Jesus Christ; danger does not frighten them because they know that not a single hair on their head will fall without their heavenly Father, their protector, giving permission.
The Lord is with us and protects us from all evil, we do not need to fear the evil that surrounds us. This verse from David can only comfort us and encourage us to hide under the wings of the Lord. If you are afraid of circumstances and battle cries, your faith will still waver. It is not forbidden to protect yourself when you have the possibility, but you must always believe that true protection comes from God and Him alone.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
