Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you.
1 Thessalonians 5:12 (NIV)
Paul knows very well the responsibility and stress that comes with leadership in the church, especially that of the pastor. He must watch over the life of his flock, he must nourish them spiritually with the word, he must always be available to each of his members, he must be able to answer all the moral and biblical questions that they ask, and above all, he must be ready to teach them according to biblical doctrines. It is a responsibility that lasts a lifetime.
Aware of all this, Paul encourages the Christians of Thessalonica to appreciate the hard work of the leaders who give their all to protect them from false teachers and to exhort them according to the precepts of the Lord. Nothing is more encouraging to a pastor than the appreciation of the members of his church.
Have you ever taken the time to express your gratitude to your pastor or Sunday school teacher who helped you grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ? God allowed Paul to make such a mention because He knows that sometimes your words of love and encouragement can lift the spirits of the one who is called to teach and guide you. The next time you meet with your leader, be sure to express your appreciation.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
