Your Covenant with God

Then King David came in and sat before the Lord, and said, “Who am I, Lord God, and what is my house that You have brought me this far?

1 Chronicles 17:16 (NASB)

What if I told you that we have all experienced that feeling where, because of our position in ministry and the value we are given, we feel more spiritual and important than others. For some, this feeling lasts only a moment, while for others, it is a feeling that lasts. They become so attached to it that they end up becoming a Saul who ignores God’s direction to please himself.

God made a covenant with David, establishing him as the leader of His people forever, despite his sin with Bathsheba. David could feel honored and believe that he was more important than he thought. Yet, he humbled himself before God, asking Him, “Who am I?” David knew that the reason he could go this far in life was because God was in control, which is why he always stood before God for His instructions on how to move forward.

You and I are no different from David, he was a simple man like us. He expressed it by saying in the next verse: "...And hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O Lord God." Whatever ministry God has called you to, know that it is a covenant between Him and you, which means that everything you do must be for His glory. Do not get carried away by the respect and privileges it brings you. Otherwise, you will end up falling into the trap of Saul who thought he could please God as he desires. To please God's heart, keep His covenant with you, give Him the worship that is due to Him.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
