Now we will be saved from our enemies and from all who hate us.
Luke 1:71 (NLT)
We live in a time when hatred is becoming commonplace. Your neighbor might hate you simply because they don't like the way you dress or because you work for a company where they would like to get a job. Hatred creates enemies, even without a valid reason. Given the state of the world, some may decide to destroy the lives of others to take their place. Fortunately, those who have placed their trust in Jesus find a safe refuge.
Jesus promised to protect us from our enemies. When He speaks of enemies, He is not referring to people with whom we simply disagree. The enemies He protects us from are those who threaten our lives and well-being and who persecute us because of our faith. Jesus told His disciples that they would encounter obstacles on their path, but that He would be with them. This truth is still relevant today. We all have enemies, some we don't even know, who seek to harm us.
You may know your enemies. It's also possible that someone you consider a friend is your worst enemy, without you even knowing it. That's why you must entrust yourself to Christ, for He is the only one capable of saving you from those who hate you and wish you harm. Jesus will never abandon you in the midst of the ferocious wolves who want to devour you. Remember what He said to His disciples: "I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves." He said this because He knew what awaited them. He was preparing them to face the obstacles while promising to save them. Have this firm assurance that Jesus will defend you against your enemy.
May the grace and peace of God be with you.
