It was there at Marah that the Lord set before them the following decree as a standard to test their faithfulness to Him.
Exodus 15:25b (NLT)
Some Christians view certain passages of Scripture as the record of what happened at a specific time in history. They pay no attention to the spiritual teaching behind these passages. They can read a chapter over and over again, but they only see the story being told, nothing more. However, many Bible lessons are taught symbolically.
Exodus 15 tells us about the rebellion of the people of Israel against Moses at Marah because the water they found was bitter. Even though they complained about Moses, they knew he couldn't do anything on his own. But they used him as a scapegoat to address God indirectly. But at least their rebellion was against Moses rather than against God.
Today, our situation is no different from theirs. For despite all the miracles the Bible tells us about, when faced with an obstacle in their lives, many Christians rebel directly against God instead of humbly turning to Him for direction. Marah was a test of Israel's faithfulness. So if God can test His chosen people, don't you think He can also test our faithfulness and our faith, all of us who are saved by grace in Jesus Christ?
If you are still at Marah, it is because you are still rebelling against God instead of listening and obeying Him.
