Commitment to the Word

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Psalm 119:105 (NASB)

In this passage, the author expresses the importance and value of God's law in his life. Important enough to light his path and valuable enough to guide him. This is why, in the following verse (V.106), he undertakes to keep it. It is a unique metaphor, in the sense that in the first part of the verse he compares it to a lamp and in the second part, to a light. In other words, we could put it that way: Your word is the lamp that serves as light for me on my path.

This verse reveals an important truth for us Christians today. It indicates that God's word is faithful and can guide us spiritually if we choose to live in obedience to its precepts. It is not enough to see the depth of its revelation, we must also be able to apply it, because it can change the course of our lives. The light it represents can help us make the right choice, live in the truth and follow more easily the footsteps of Christ.

Like the psalmist, you must commit to obey the word of God because through it you will be blessed by God, through it you will obtain His protection, through it you will have the necessary wisdom to live in this dark world. This lamp at your feet will allow you to know what decision to make at any time in your life and its light will guide you on the right path. Commit yourself entirely in the word of God.

May the grace and the peace of God be with you all.
