From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. He said: “In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From dep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry."
Jonah 2:1-2 (NIV)
From the bottom of the sea, Jonah cried out to God. Although he was still in the belly of the fish, he knew by faith that the Lord would hear his cry. He knowed He would deliver him. What a place for a prayer! This should teach us that there is no place on earth where we cannot pray to God. No matter where we are, no matter what situation we face, we can always pray to God. Whether out loud or in our hearts, we just need to have faith and believe that our prayers will be answered.
No situation, no matter how serious, can prevent God from hearing us and delivering us. God will always answer our cry of distress, even when we are guilty of sin or disobey his voice. Jonah was not on his way to Nineveh when he was thrown overboard. He was fleeing the mission that God had entrusted to him. But, God did not abandon him despite his disobedience, because he repented of his error. So if you are wondering if there is hope for you in your distress or if God will have mercy on you and hear your cry? The answer is yes. You just have to repent and humble yourself before Him, He will hear you despite your disobedience.
Finally, God let the circumstances escalate before delivering Jonah. Often circumstances get complicated to the point where we see no way out. When it happens to you, remember the fate of Jonah. What was impossible for him was not for God. When we cry out to the Lord in our distress, He answers us and delivers us no matter what situation we find ourselves in.
