God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.
John 4:24 (NIV)
This verse contains two truths: The first speaks of the invisible nature of God and the second tells us how we should worship God, in Spirit and Truth. If the first “Spirit” in the verse is used for God, the second refers to our human spirit which connects us to Him. We often worship God physically or in emotional outbursts, but the worship that God requires must come from within, with a pure heart, not through outward conformity. The word truth here refers to the revealed word of God, which is Jesus Christ himself.
To be a true worshiper of God, our worship must be consistent with the very nature of God. It cannot have any religious or ritual motive, any external satisfaction or pride, because true worship is not limited to our own desires or satisfaction. It must involves a deep personal connection with God that permeates every aspect of our lives and should bring all the glory that belongs to God.
Worshiping God in truth requires that we align our worship with the reality of who He is and what He has revealed through His son. It also means that we must engage our whole being, heart, mind and soul, in our act of worship. This intimate relationship is made possible through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, who unites us with God and guides us on our spiritual journey.
Today, wherever you are ready to worship, let yourself go deeper to a place you have not been before, allow yourself to be led by the Holy Spirit and be opened to his leading. He will direct your heart and mind as you engage with God in the path of true of worship.
God is Spirit, so whoever worships God must worship Him in spirit and truth.
