Let Us Rejoice in His Love

For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

1 Corinthians 1:25 (NIV)

When we see people around us making hasty decisions, we often think, even without saying so, that it is a sign of immaturity. Depending on the reason for the decision, we sometimes call it foolishness. Conversely, when we judge, from our perspective, the decision-making process as too slow, we perceive it as weakness. It's like when someone insults us: the reaction must be immediate. Anyone who is slow to react is weak.

It is in our nature to judge the reactions of others and draw conclusions from them. God does not react the way we do in the way He reacts or makes decisions. This precludes any possibility of judgment on our part. What God does is far beyond our understanding. We cannot discern it, even with the greatest human wisdom. While we would have condemned all those who do evil in the world, God decided to forgive them by sending His Son to die on the cross.

If God were a man making such a decision, we would have condemned Him, declaring that believing these people could change was weakness and foolishness. This would be a valid analysis. But when we remember that it is this foolishness and weakness of God, as we would have concluded, that has allowed us to inherit eternal glory, we can only say that what we call God's foolishness or weakness surpasses human wisdom. We will never be able to understand what God does and decides; let us simply rejoice in His love.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
