Praise the Lord for He is Good

I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.

Psalm 138:2 (NKJV)

How can it be so difficult for us to see and understand the work and splendor of God in our lives? Some Christians reduce the work of God to their desire and their lust. If their desire is to have a new car and they pray to God to give it to them, if they manage to have it, God is good. If they don't receive it, they have a problem with Him and they doubt Him.

By reducing the work of God to the fulfillment of our desires, we minimize His grace, His love, His goodness, His promises, His faithfulness, His sovereignty, etc. David wrote this psalm to magnify the name of God. In this verse, he does not mention material things but rather the goodness and faithfulness of God. Didn't he have a reason to see what he had received from God? Yes of course. But, like Paul, he considered these things a loss before the excellence of the glory of God.

Like David, instead of desiring the things of this world, let us bow down before God. Rejoice when we go to His presence, enter His holy temple with praise and thanksgiving. Let us be grateful for His goodness and His faithfulness because, if we can have the hope of eternal life, it is because He decided it from the height of His throne and none of us deserves such a grace.

Praise the Lord for He is good, for His mercy endures forever.
