And although you were previously alienated and hostile in attitude, engaged in evil deeds, yet He has now reconciled you in His body of flesh through death...
Colossians 1:21-22a (NASB)
Today, if we can come peacefully before God to spend time in prayer, if our sins can no longer condemn us and cause us to lose the grace of God, it is not because of our meritorious works nor our pure thoughts. Rather, it is because God had made a plan of salvation for us in His son Jesus Christ.
You and I have been separated from God for a long time. Our actions, no matter how good according to our thoughts, could not cause God to love us, to save us, and have a relationship with us. Everything we did and thought was enmity towards God. If everything God had done was good, our sinful nature proved otherwise, because we had rejected His holiness.
In Jesus, God has reconciled us to Himself out of love for us. No sacrifice on our part, not even our death, could make this reconciliation possible. On the contrary, our death would be the right punishment for our sins. When you think about who you are today, instead of elevating yourself, remember what God has done for you and give Him glory.
