There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all.
1 Corinthians 12:4-7 (NKJV)
While talents can be developed over time, spiritual gifts are given by the Holy Spirit for the building up of the church of Jesus Christ. In this, all Christians, having received the gift of the Holy Spirit, must play an active role in preaching, teaching the word, spreading the gospel and even in the development of believers, both spiritual and physical.
All are called and equipped for “the work of ministry”, found in Ephesians 4:12. They are spiritually gifted to contribute to the cause of Christ. In doing so, they also find fulfillment in their lives through their devotion to Christ. Church leaders have the task of training and preparing the men and women of God to be better equipped for the ministry to which God has called them. The purpose of spiritual gifts is for the church as a whole, enhanced by the combined contribution of each member of the body of Christ.
To summarize the differences between spiritual gifts and talents:
1-: A talent is the result of training, discipline and/or the influence of an environment whereas a spiritual gift is the result of the power of the Holy Spirit.
2-: A talent can be possessed by anyone, believer or not, whereas spiritual gifts are only given to believers.
3-: While the spiritual gift and the talent must be used for the edification of the church and for the glory of God, the spiritual gift is focused only on the edification of the people of God, whereas the talent can also be used entirely for other non-spiritual purposes.
Finally, I will say that God gives you the talent to convince you of His desire to accomplish great things through you. The Holy Spirit gives you the gift of the spirit to build the church of Jesus Christ. Thus gifts and talents are sown in you. It is now up to you to water them with prayer and the study of the word so that the people of God can reap the edification reserved for them.
