To Receive God's Revelation - Part 2

At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike.

Matthew 11:25 (NLT)

As mentioned earlier, there are two types of believers. Those who consider themselves wise and intelligent, and those who humble themselves before God like children. Note that despite the rejection of God's wisdom by the first type of believers, Jesus does not respond with bitterness and anger. On the contrary, He praises God and thanks Him for hiding the truth, which is Jesus Himself, from them.

Do not understand in this that Jesus took pleasure in their proud exaltation or that He joyfully consented to God's refusal to reveal hidden things to them. What His prayer reveals to us instead is that by deliberately refusing to submit themselves to the source of all intelligence and wisdom, it was better that God's revelation was not given to them. They would become even worse in their proud attitude based on human wisdom and understanding.

That being said, I suggest that instead of finding satisfaction in your spirituality, wisdom and understanding only to become arrogant, be like children. Seek the protection and instruction of your father. Apply to your life the exhortation of James who tells us: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives to all men generously and without reproaching, and it will be given him. - RSV" Like children, turn to God with a pure heart and He will reveal Himself to you.

May the grace and the peace of God be with you all.
