What Makes You a Christian?
The one who loves Me is the one who has My teaching and obeys it. My Father will love whoever loves Me. I will love him and will show Myself to him.
John 14:21 (NLV)
Many believe that to be a Christian one must be an active member of a congregation, attend worship service every Sunday, own a Bible, be present at all prayer meetings and Bible studies, and be able to use verses in specific circumstances.
Unfortunately, all this cannot make you a Christian. You can be a church member, known for your good deeds and your zeal for activities in the eyes of men without being seen and heard by God. Did not Jesus Christ himself say, “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name? Haven't we cast out demons by your name? And have we not done many miracles through your name? Then I will say to them openly: I never knew you, depart from me, you who do iniquity." (Matthew 7:22)
The true Christian is the one who walks in the way of God, who meditates on the word day and night and who practices the works of faith by devoting himself totally to God. If you want to be a Christian, start by seeking God's will in prayer and fasting, obey His word, love your neighbor even if he hurts you. For, God sees what you endure in His name and He knows the desires of your heart. Let Him guide you and your life will testify that you are a Christian after God's own heart.
May the grace of God be upon you.
