The Proper Purpose of Prayer

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

Matthew 6:5 (NIV)

Prayer – It is very simple in its essence. It can be simply defined as talking to God. Yet prayer is one of the most complex subjects that can be discussed. God is sovereign and does not change, yet prayer somehow moves Him to do things differently.

Prayer is our direct line to God. When we are alone in our quiet place, He hears us, even if we can’t find the right words. We need not show off with wordiness or grandstanding before others. God is not impressed with these. He already knows our thoughts and He hears us just fine even when our prayers are not plain and our words are few.

We can trust God to hear our prayers and do what is best for us because He loves us. When His answer is a “no” or “wait,” then it is because He knows better than we do what would be good for us. We can trust Him. We can rest in His care.

May God bless you all!
